Happy 64th Birthday, dearest John. I miss you every day and our delightful, as well as weighty conversations, but I know God is keeping you safe in his hand with his Angels. Amelia is now 2.5 yrs old. Pls look after our Angel here on earth as we pray for you.

Dear Mary Ellen, Denise, Michelle, Rosemary, Dana, Alden, and John’s family,
I am so sorry to learn of John’s death and send my deepest sympathy to all of you. I can only imagine how difficult it was to say goodbye and grieve from a distance.
Six years ago I lost my husband after a long illness. He was almost 70, and spoke of having led a full life, but I always wished for more time. Be patient and good to yourselves, the adjustments will take time, and your memories will keep you afloat.
Many of you may know me as Dana and Alden’s Auntie in Hawaii. Denise and the boys have often spoken of John and their cousins in Boston/NY. Although I never met John, his obituary paints a vivid picture of a larger than life man who enjoyed sailing, the stock market, cards, fireworks, and other risky endeavors, as well as spending time with his family. It was quite a life that you all shared!
Until we meet again, take care of yourselves. Sending my love, best wishes, and Aloha,
Ann

Dear Ellie, Denise, Michelle and johns family,
I grew up with the Trepaniers in Hong king as our parents, were the best of friends.
John taught me how to play poker but subsequently spanked me in every game!!!
I am so very sorry for the loss of John. It’s so shocking to lose one of our own.
You’re in my thought maybe and prayers

Ellie, Michele, Denise, Karen, Johnathon, Taylor & Kelly-
I have known John since Day 1 in Hong Kong. I literally grew up with him as a second brother to Gavin. I have fond memories of him on family vacations to Thailand, holiday dinners, Junk rides around the HK Islands, and basically as a constant presence at all our events. I fondly remember "feats of strength" to earn extra spending $. I recall challenges of endurance with Dylan and I on Silverado Trail. When I reminisce about him, I recollect how he always treated me like one of the grown-ups and he made an effort to spend time playing board/trivia games with me as I was usually the youngest by a generation or so.
I am so sorry for your loss. I will remember John with the fondness of my own family member.
Love,
Jonathan B

Karen, Johnathon, Taylor and Kelly. It saddens me to hear this news about John regardless of the conflict he left behind.
I was one of those but when I saw this I couldn’t really do anything but forgive and have tears and remember the ups and downs since 1968 when we first met. The fun we had over so many years since we were 12 and became fast friends. Those were the days in HK when we had so much of life to capture and so many adventures, whether jumping off the cliffs at the 3 islands, camping in the WWII bunkers in the hills, the dirt clod wars or exploring Wanchai and Lon Kwai Fong as young teen agers.
We came back together in NYC when Karen and John were gracious enough to allow me live with them my fist loft bed in a tiny railroad flat on west 54th and 9th Avenue in 1980.
I stood in at his and Karen’s wedding and was lucky enough to be there when the 3 kids were growing up, as uncle Michael.
We went on to become partners and opened Christer’s restaurant in 1993 on west 55th street.
To say John was colorful would be an understatement. I am happy that I have been able to overlook the past that wasn’t so good between us and forgive John. RIP old friend and rest easy as I know the last few years have been hard on you ❤️

Dear Kelly, Taylor, Johnathon and Mary Ellen,
We are saddened to learn of the passing of John, our truly wonderful friend for more than thirty years. Felicity and I have fantastic memories of the good times that we have been fortunate to share with both John and you. Whether skiing in Vermont, enjoying a round of golf, playing gin rummy on the “New Haven Line” or just hanging out, John was the life of the party. He was also a truly kind and caring person. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago when he called to provide birthday greetings. We will sincerely miss him. Warm wishes to you and family.
