Obituary of Michael M. Ego

Dr. Michael M. Ego (68) passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2019. He is survived by his wife and four children. Dr. Ego grew up in Gardena, California and was taken many places in pursuit of higher education, to include: California State University Dominguez Hills, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education; California State University Los Angeles where he earned his masters degree in Recreation Administration; and the University of Oregon where he earned his PhD in Leisure Studies in Service. Dr. Ego’s focus and passion in education was in Asian American family studies and gerontology. Dr. Ego worked in higher education as faculty at California State Dominguez Hills, California State Northridge, San Jose State University, University of Hawai’i Hilo, and the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Ego enjoyed cheering for the LA Dodgers, teaching as a professor of Human Development and Family Studies at UConn, and managing his research in baseball and golf sports reminiscence therapy.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at UConn Stamford with a reception to follow. An additional service will be held at the Gardena Buddhist Church on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11:00 am.
