Obituary of John R. Nolan

John R. Nolan, 89, of Stamford passed away on January 17, 2019.
John was born in Enfield, CT to Harry and Katherine Nolan on June 24th, 1929.
He graduated from Stamford High School, Southern CT State University, Fairfield University and Columbia University. He was a proud Navy Veteran. He had a long career in the Stamford School system and retired as Stamford High School Vice Principal. John was also a member of the Stamford Board of Representatives, and served as the Majority Leader and Parliamentarian, and was on the Park Commission for many years.
He was very active in Stamford and state politics and a proud Stamford resident. John was a lover of music, books and good conversation. He enjoyed playing tennis and Paddle tennis at the Italian Center.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Louise Hoffman, to whom he was married for 55 years. He is also survived by his three children, Kerry Swift (Kyle), Kevin Nolan (Emily), and Kendra Becker (John). He adored his seven grandchildren Colleen, Sean and Nora Swift; Katherine and John Nolan, and Megan and John Becker IV.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Harrison.
Visitation will held at Holy Spirit Church at 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, CT on Friday January 25th from 4 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday January 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church. A burial at Queen of Peace Cemetery will follow the mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John Nolan Memorial Fund at Holy Spirit Church. No visitation will be held at the funeral home so if you decide to send flowers, they are requested to be sent directly to the church.
