Obituary of Catherine V. Cingari

Catherine Veronica Franco Cingari was born on June 1, 1932 in Newport, RI to Catherine Power Franco and Fred Franco. Born and raised in Newport, RI. She was the Valedictorian from St Catherine's Academy in Newport and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bryant College which is where she met her future husband and love of her life Sam Cingari. Sam and Cathy were married on Sept. 1, 1952 in Newport, RI. Cathy is predeceased by her Father Fred Franco Sr, her mother Catherine Power Franco and her brother Frederick Joseph Franco Jr of Tilghman Island, Maryland and Fairfax Virginia. Cathy is survived by her husband of 66 years Sam Cingari and their 6 children, Rosemary Cingari, John and Tricia (Lynn) Cingari, Michael Cingari, Tom and Sue (Ciuffo) Cingari, David Cingari and Janine McCormick, Mary (Cingari) Donovan and Brian Donovan. The greatest joy of Cathy's life was creating magical Christmases for her grandchildren Katie Cingari and Becky Lotstein, Christopher Cingari, Melissa {Cingari) Rigby and Brett Rigby, Samantha Cingari, Michael Cingari, Jr, Christine Cingari and Kelly Fitzpatrick, Tom Cingari Jr and Jenna (Macari) Cingari, Daniel Cingari, Matt Cingari, John Cingari, David James (DJ) Cingari, Caroline Cingari, Elizabeth Cingari, Brian Donovan Jr and Jack Donovan. Life became even more exciting when her great grandchildren arrived, Wyatt Rigby, Lainey Rigby, Harper Cingari and James Cingari. Cathy found out that her 5th great grandchild will be a girl who will be arriving in Oct. Cathy will be missed by her Brother John and wife Jackie Franco of Chester, PA , and sister-in-law Marge Franco, widow of Cathy's older brother Fred Franco, Jr. of VA. Cathy Cingari was a quiet person with a thoughtful heart and spirit. Cathy shopped, cooked, and drove to doctor appointments for several woman who did not have family close by. She helped care for and comfort family members and friends in times of sadness and celebrated in times of joy. When something needed to be done, Cathy Cingari was the person many turned to for quiet, responsible assistance. For 30 years she was a volunteer every Tues at the Stamford Easter Seals Rehabilitation Hospital. She and Sam hosted and organized many fundraisers for The YMCA, Stamford Opera, Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, The Stamford Hospital and The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County and the Shippan Garden Club. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church 566 Elm St, Stamford, CT on Tuesday, Oct 9, 2018 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Darien immediately following Mass. No calling hours will be held. Flower arrangements will not be accepted at the funeral home or Church.
