Obituary of Eve R. Madigan

Eve Roeter Madigan,  61

After first being diagnosed with cancer in 2002, Eve succumbed to her nemesis on December 28th , 2017. Weary of hearing of courageous battles with death, Eve wanted it known that she died as a result of being stubborn, and simply wanting to spend as much time with her beloved friends and family as comfort allowed.

Eve was born May 29, 1956  in Stamford CT to Elaine and Allen Roeter. She attended Stamford public schools, graduating from Westhill High School in 1974 with the first graduating class to have attended the new high school all four years.  Her friendships from Stamford have endured. Eve wanted everyone to be assured that the memories of all of your shared experiences, as well as the many messages of love,   have provided her with comfort and sustenance.

Eve most of all had love for family and was a dedicated mother and step-mother.  Her proudest moments  came within the last year when her daughter Aimee graduated from King School on her path to the University of Vermont,  and the recent engagements of her two step-children Jack and Ali Madigan , to the loves of their lives.

Her passions in life were skiing, literature, travel, good restaurants, smart clothes,  sailing on Long Island Sound and , of course, the beach.

Eve attended Lake Forest College and graduated from the University of Colorado in 1978, majoring in English Literature.  Eve learned to ski at a young age on family ski vacations to Vail.  Her love of skiing and literature was heightened while at Boulder and continued throughout her life. After graduation Eve returned east and began her career which led her to the restaurant business, working in several notable eateries in Fairfield County. Wherever she worked it seemed Eve would adopt her co-workers into her network of wonderful relationships.

Inspired by her high school English teacher, Sondra Melzer, Eve returned to school and earned her masters degree in teaching from Sacred Heart University.  She embarked on a 24 year teaching career, all spent at Rogers Elementary, now Rogers International School, in Stamford. Eve retired this past year when her ability to continue in the classroom became too difficult.  Eve taught Language Arts striving to inspire students to love reading and writing as she was once inspired.

Eve was most at peace when on Long Island Sound. Eve spent many evenings sailing with her family and many days with her pals at the beach.  The shore provided Eve with comfort and much peaceful time to read and be with her friends who have been selflessly supportive.

Eve was predeceased by her father Alan Roeter. She is survived by her mother Elaine Roeter of Sarasota FL, her loving husband John W. Madigan III and daughter Aimee of Norwalk CT,  stepson Jack Madigan (Tammy) of Los Angeles CA, stepdaughter Ali (Will) of Oakland, CA, , her sister Holly Roeter Grounds (Todd) of Sydney AUS, and two nephews, Lee and Harry Grounds of Sydney AUS, mother-in-law Frances Madigan Healey of New Canaan CT, sisters-in-law Deirdre Madigan Bickell (Ross) of New York City, Sheila Madigan Torgan of Fairfield  CT, and brother-in-law Donald C. Madigan (Debbie) of Richmond VA.

A celebration of Eve’s wonderful life will be scheduled in January. In lieu of flowers, Eve requested that a contribution be made to the Hackers For Hope P.O. Box 545 New Canaan, CT 06840 and the Lazerex Foundation.   P.O. Box 741 Danville CC 94526
