Obituary of Eugene W. Karwoski Jr.

Eugene William Karwoski, Jr., age 72, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Stamford Hospital. Gene was born in Stamford to Jane M. and the late Eugene W. Karwoski, Sr. and was a lifelong resident of Stamford. He graduated from Stamford Catholic High School, Class of 1968 and earned bachelor’s degree in accounting from Villanova University, Class of 1972. Gene was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to following his beloved Villanova basketball and football teams, and local New York franchises as well. He was a member of the Villanova Blue & White Club and for many years, enjoyed tailgating at many home and away football games. He attended the NCAA Men's Final Four in 1985, the year of Villanova’s stunning national championship, a memory of which Gene spoke often.

Gene was a devoted son, brother and friend. He had a deep and abiding Catholic faith and a heart of gold.  He never put himself first, but always made sure he took care of others, especially his family. Though he appeared reserved, Gene had a great sense of humor, loved music and singing along.

Gene is survived by his mother, Jane, sisters Mary Jane Karwoski of Hoover, AL and Suzanne Jonker of New Canaan, CT, and brother, Thomas of Stamford. He also is survived by two nieces, Alexandra Jonker of New York, and Meredith Jonker of Austin, TX.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 at St. Gabriel’s RC Church, 948 Newfield Ave, Stamford, CT.  In lieu of calling hours, the family will receive those wishing to share condolences in the church narthex prior to the memorial mass at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT.
