She was called Kathleen, Kathy, Sis, Aunt Sissy Kay, Grandma, Chick (by her husband), "Barrel" (a childhood nickname by her bother Jimmy, which she hated), Mrs. Uva or simply "K". No matter what you called her, you were addressing or referring to the same person. I've never know a more genuine or sincere human being. During a personal, medical crisis (didn't we all turn to her during such times -- and wasn't she always there for us?), she called me in the hospital. At the time, it was bleak and she knew it. Told me to look at the palm of my hand. So I did. She said that was the dark side, and I should not look there again. She then instructed me to look at the backside of my hand, which she referred to as the "sunny side" and said if I kept my concentration there, the sun would shine again for me. Her optimism was and is eternal. And of course, she was right. I "righted" my attitude and I did indeed improve. I share this with you because it's what she would tell us now. As we grieve the loss of this amazing woman, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, friend and of course, nurse, ...let us look at the backside of our hands, see how her light shines on all of us and be joyous and grateful because she was in our lives. She would want us to do so.
