Unfortunately, I just heard about Jim's passing today while wishing him a happy birthday. My heart is saddened. He was my gym teacher at St. Michael's Academy from 1972-1976. He was a special man, a great teacher and a terrific coach. My prayers and condolences to the Bartley family. Rest in Peace "Mr. Bartley"!

One of my best friends at the University of Virginia. Jim was a very positive, energetic person, with a great, positive sense of humor. We are all much better for knowing him. Mike Smith, UVa 1981.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Jim's passing. I'm immensely grateful to have worked with him at the Norwalk River Watershed Association, the help, and opportunities he gave me, and will always think back fondly on the afternoon where we kayaked looking for terrapins to film. I will never forget his immense kindness, generosity, and passion for the environment. My prayers are with his family. Jim will be missed.

When we were in the early years of the Western Connecticut Lacrosse Association Jim helped guide us through our up's and downs, with all those years of lacrosse officiating experience. Always professional on and off the field, respected by coaches, players, administrators and fellow officials. Jim was missed tremendously when he hung up his stripes and will always be appreciated for his leadership qualities. RIP James Bartley...

I am deeply saddened to learn of Jim's passing and send my profound sympathies to his family. I had the pleasure of serving with him on the board of the Norwalk River Watershed Association for the past few years. Jim's kindness and generosity of spirit always shone through. And when a job needed doing, you could count on Jim to step up. I will miss his warm smile and just knowing that he is in this world. - Cathy Smith

I was so very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I had recently gotten to know him this past year, as we co-taught a course together at Sacred Heart University. Jim was such a neat, funny and intelligent man, and I was looking forward to getting to know him and learn from him more. He always made me laugh, and I could tell how much his students admired and respected him. He will truly be missed by his colleagues and students. My deepest condolences and prayers to his family and friends.

I refereed lacrosse with Jim for many years. At one point we were the only officials working both CT and NY, so we often shared notes. Jim was an excellent official and great guy, and mentored me when I was a new official. He was a calming influence when others lost their way. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched.

I had wonderful experience of having Professor Jim be my instructor teaching an Information Technology Course at Norwalk Community College years ago.
It was one thing when he used the text book or online but another when he stood before the class & gave everything he had in his head - without notes - based on his years of experience & insight in field of technology related to the medical field.
One of the nicest things I recall is he welcomed classroom input even if one disagreed with his opinions. He would have a big smile on his face & compliment the student for their input. Victoria Moon
