Obituary of Elaine Tashman

Elaine Tashman, a longtime Stamford Resident dies at 96. She died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, October 9, 2021.
Elaine was born and raised in the Bronx, New York City, and grew up to become a successful model, dancer and Broadway actress, performing in plays during the 1940s. Shortly after WWII she married Harold Tashman, who was the love of her life. Together, they raised three children and enjoyed traveling the world, visiting country after country -- many several times. They had a lifelong attachment to Israel, which they visited often and supported with great Zionistic enthusiasm. Elaine and Harold were among the founders of Rockrimmon Country Club in Stamford. Harold died in 1993.
A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, known to all as Emah (Hebrew for mother), Elaine bestowed great love and generosity on her family. She is survived by her children: daughters Mary Beth Weiner (husband, Dr. Avi Weiner), Tracy Kalson (husband David Kalson), and her son, William Tashman.
Emah was extremely close to and influential on her adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Galit Weiner Finkelstein; Ariel Weiner Churba (great-grandson, Chael); Aryn Kalson Sperandio (great-grandchildren Lila, Ivy and Raphael); Shana Kalson-Kopel (great-grandson, Milo); Mateo Tashman and Sofia Tashman (great-granddaughter, Layla).
Elaine was a powerful advocate and supporter for a variety of organizations, including Stamford Hospital, Brandeis University and a wide range of other good causes. Talented at painting and various crafts, her art graces the homes of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike. Throughout her life, Elaine's love of the theater was instilled in her children and grandchildren by her celebrating every child's birthday with theater tickets.
A funeral service and a gathering for family and friends will be held for Elaine on Monday, October 18 from 10:00 a.m. till 12 noon at the Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home (same building as Cognetta Funeral Home), 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT 06902 (203)-359-9999, followed by interment at the Temple Beth-El Cemetery in Stamford.
