Obituary of Marilyn Stone
Marilyn Stone passed away on May 26, 2021 after a seventeen year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She leaves behind her husband Joseph, daughter Sara , son Edward and grandchildren Lindsay, Luke and CJ. She was predeceased by daughter Hillary and son Daniel.
Marilyn was a renowned medieval Spanish literature scholar, educator, translator and author of a number of published works including Marriage and Friendship in Medieval Spain, Women at Work in Spain: From the Middle Ages to Early Modern Times and the Handbook of Courtroom Terms in Spanish & English: A bilingual explanation in everyday language.
Marilyn obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and French from Queens College, a Master of Arts in Spanish Literature from Columbia University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Spanish Literature from New York University.
She was known and loved by many as the foremost authority on Alfonso X el Sabio, King of Spain (Castile and Leon) from 1252 to 1284. Services are private and under the direction of Thomas M.
