Obituary of Sondra Ruth Gold

Sondra (Wittenberg) Gold, of Stamford, CT passed away Saturday, March 6, 2021, after a brief illness.

She is survived by her husband of over 66 years, Leo, her son David and his wife Elizabeth, her daughter Susan, and grandsons Daniel and Michael, and her son Jon and his wife Lisa, and grandsons Sam and Alex.  She was predeceased by her only sibling, her brother Edwin.

Sandy was born and raised in Bridgeport and, after marrying Leo, made Stamford her home for 60 years.  She was a truly remarkable woman who devoted her life to caring for her husband, children and grandchildren, and many others within her extended family.  Her dedication to her family and friends was boundless, and she expressed that love in all that she did - - from every delicious meal she prepared, to never allowing any of us to leave the house or end a phone call until she had reminded us to be careful.

Sandy had an amazingly optimistic attitude, a great love of life, a wonderful sense of humor and an unceasing desire to make the world around her a better place.  Though never one to tout her own accomplishments, Sandy found time throughout her life and even into her 80's, to volunteer her efforts and enthusiasm to a long list of charitable and community organizations, including Stamford Hospital, Stamford Public Schools Literacy Program, Stamford Jewish Center, Temple Beth El Sisterhood and the Brandeis Women's Auxiliary, where she served as a past president.

Sandy considered her life to have been a blessing, and a celebration of her life will be planned in the future when it is safe for everyone to gather.  In lieu of flowers, Sandy simply would have wanted everyone to help and support those in need and to cherish their families and friends.  Memorial donations may be made to Temple Beth El, Stamford, CT or to a charity of one's choice.  The family has entrusted the services to the Thomas Gallagher Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave. Stamford, Conn. 06902.   To extend condlences to the family, please visit www.gallagherfuneralhome.com
