Obituary of Giovanni C. Sibilia

Giovanni Carlo Sibilia, age 72, lost his battle with cancer and died on November 5, 2020.  Giovanni or John as most know of him was the husband of Teresa for 48 years.  He was the father of two, and grandfather of three.  John was born in San Mango Sul Calore, Italy to Generosa and Teodoro. John and his family came to the United States on March 9, 1966 when he was 17 years old.  He became a citizen of the United States in 1975.  He attended Rippowam High School in Stamford.  He married Teresa Tosone in Stamford, CT in 1972 and that is where they resided.

John is survived by his wife, Teresa; son, Ted, and his wife Danielle, of New Canaan, CT; daughter, Carmela English, and her husband Brian, of Norwalk, CT; grandchildren, Sydney Sibilia, Sophia Sibilia and Brian English Jr.; sister Fiorita DiPietro. He was predeceased by both parents Generosa and Teodoro.

John worked at Pitney Bowes for 36 years before retiring.  He then took a part-time job at the Ferguson Library.  John was a kind and generous man he always wanted to share what he had with people.  He was the life of the party and always made people laugh.  He was an active person who enjoyed his daily walks and being outside whether it was watching his grandkids play sports or cutting the grass and blowing the leaves.  He spent his Sunday mornings playing cards at the San Manghese Social Club.  He had a passion for soccer and when his team, Juventus, was playing he was glued to the television and you could not disturb him.  John enjoyed carrying on the family tradition of wine making, jarring tomatoes, picking wild mushrooms and making sausage and cured meats. 

A walk through visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Thomas M.
