Obituary of Phyllis Turin
Phyllis D. Turin, 83, a longtime resident of Westport, Connecticut, passed away on September 25, 2020.
Phyllis was born September 17, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, to Ida and Harry Dilbert. Phyllis grew up in Great Neck, New York and graduated from Great Neck High School. She met her husband, Michael, in Boston, where they both attended college and they married in 1957. After starting their family in New York City and living on Long Island and Great Britain, they found their way to Westport, CT in 1970, where they raised their three children and have lived ever since. Phyllis was an active volunteer in her children’s schools and loved traveling, games, knitting, and quilting. Most of all, she loved spending time with her friends and family.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Michael and their children, Jake Turin of Villanueva, New Mexico, David Turin (Marian Berkowitz) of Somerville, Massachusetts, and Lynn Pokorny (John Pokorny) of Weston, Connecticut. Phyllis was the loving Nana of Emma Halper, Gillian Halper, Darcy Turin and Sam Turin. She is also survived by her sister Ann Sandler of Williamsburg, VA and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was predeceased by her sister, Rosalind Freedman.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be sent in her memory to the George Washington Carver Community Center in Norwalk, CT.
