Obituary of Joseph James Capozzi

J. James “Jim” Capozzi, 67, of South Salem, New York, passed away on Saturday, May 9th, 2020. Jim was born on December 6, 1952 in the Bronx, New York, where he was raised and graduated from Samuel Gompers Vocational Tech. He became a successful entrepreneur as the founder and president of CAPtech, Inc., installing, operating, and maintaining revenue collection systems throughout North America for more than 28 years. Over the course of his career, Jim established CAPtech, Inc. into one of the nations’ most respected technical services’ companies. More recently, Jim worked as the Fare Collection Systems’ Specialist for WSP USA, beginning in February of 2018. He also demonstrated his commitment to the advancement of transit systems by chairing the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Fare Collection Systems’ Committee from 2014 to 2018. As a young adult, Jim was involved with the Civil Air Patrol for many years, where he served as a Group Commander and made many lifelong friends. He credited this time of his youth for providing him with experiences and training that allowed him to be so successful in his career. In the 1980s, Jim volunteered as a Big Brother for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization for a number of years in Yonkers, New York. More recently, Jim was further involved in his community, serving as the president of the Vittorio III Mutual Aid Society in Mamaroneck, New York from January 2013 - January 2017. In his free time, Jim enjoyed playing golf and poker with friends, and was an avid New York Yankees’ and Rangers’ fan. Jim is survived by many family members and friends who miss him terribly. He has been a dedicated, supportive, and loving husband to Alice and father of Christopher and Chase, all of South Salem, New York, as well as brother to Marianne Capozzi of Yonkers, New York and Nicholas Capozzi of Port Washington, New York. Jim was predeceased by his mother, Mary Pace, and father, Joseph Capozzi. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim’s memory. Details will be specified in the near future. A private viewing for the immediate family has been planned and a memorial service will be scheduled when restrictions on travel and group gatherings due to COVID-19 have been lifted.
