Obituary of Phyllis Natalie Gold

Phyllis Natalie Gold, 83, a resident of Delray Beach, FL passed away peacefully on August 2, 2014 at her summer home in Stamford, CT surrounded by her loving family. In addition to her husband, Leonard Gold, Phyllis is survived by her three children, Richard Gold (Nancy), David Gold (Lynn), Deborah Gold, her sister Florence Seurig (Karl), six grandchildren, Laura Gold, Jennifer Bockman (Jon), Nathan Gold (Roni), Steven Gold, Alexandra Yoder (Jamie) and Sebastian Gold; and six Great Grandchildren, Isaac and Elijah Bockman, Nash and Bodhi Gold, and Bella and Zoey Yoder. Phyllis was born in Bronx, New York to the late Leo and Dorothy Alexander and moved to Stamford in 1939, where she grew up and met her beloved husband of 64 years, Leonard. Phyllis attended McDowell School of Design in NYC but chose her career as mother and homemaker. An excellent swimmer, Phyllis taught swimming and water safety at Stamford High School, the Jewish Center and Camp JayCee. Later she became the director of Camp Jaycee where her love of children and excellent organizational skills were recognized and appreciated. Phyllis's love for her family and friends was deep and uncompromising. She never forgot a birthday and would go to any lengths to attend celebrations. She will be missed by all who knew her and her memory will live on in all our hearts. With a love of Israel and Judaism, Phyllis was a life time member of Hadassah, served in local and national positions, and as chairperson of Hadassah's "Keeper of the Gate" donation program in Florida. She attended the 75th Annual National Hadassah Convention in Israel and promised that if she was alive and able she would attend the 100th Annual Convention in Israel, which she did in October 2012. Phyllis loved playing tennis and bridge. She won many club championships in tennis and had 495+ points toward becoming a bronze master. She was a fierce competitor who never lost sight of sportsmanship. Later in life, her love of the water led to sailing with her sister. Phyllis could be seen taking their boat ("Two Sisters") sailing on Long Island Sound into Phyllis's eighties. The funeral will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014, 10 AM, at Agudath Sholom Synagogue Chapel at 301 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford CT, interment to follow at Agudath Sholom Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at the home of David and Lynn Gold, 80 Katydid Lane, Stamford, CT (call funeral home at (203)-359-9999 for Shiva times).
