Obituary of Mary Margaret Grandville

Mary Margaret Grandville

April 22, 1931 - September 8, 2019

Mary Margaret Grandville, known to family and friends as, “Marilyn”, died peacefully on Sunday morning after a long illness. She was 88 years old.

Marilyn Rogan was born in Manhattan, New York and was the daughter of John J. Rogan and Loretta Gallon. She graduated from St. Patrick’s Cathedral High in New York City in 1949 and later attended Lehman College in the Bronx, New York.  She worked as an executive secretary at Columbian Carbon Company in 1956 where she met her husband, Frank Grandville, who was an accountant at the firm. They were married at Holy Cross Church in the Bronx, New York on June 28, 1958 and raised two children, Mary-Teresa and Francis, first in the Bronx, and then in Simsbury, Canton and eventually Ridgefield, Connecticut.

After raising her children, Mrs. Grandville worked in a variety of administrative roles, spending the last ten years of her professional career as Manager of the Department of Dentistry at Danbury Hospital in Danbury CT, where she reported directly to the CEO.

Mrs. Grandville retired from the hospital in 1997, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to the theatre, attending concerts, trying her luck at the casinos in CT and Atlantic City and traveling near and far.  Shortly after the death of her beloved husband in 2004, Mrs. Grandville became a grandmother to William Francis in 2005 and then to James Rogan in 2007.  Spending time with her grandsons, taking them to Lake George each summer and watching them play sports and sing in the church choir, warmed her heart and fed her passion for life.

Mrs. Grandville is survived by her daughter Mary-Teresa Grandville, her husband Christopher H.W. Markline and grandsons William and James Markline of Stamford Connecticut, her devoted sister, Kathleen A. Rogan, of New York City, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, John J. Rogan, her husband, Frank Grandville, and her son Francis James Grandville.
