Obituary of Ronald James Thornhill

Ronald Thornhill, 70, of Stamford, CT passed away on August 22, 2019 with his loving family by his side.

Ron was a lifelong Stamford resident. After graduating from Wright Tech he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years on active duty as an Administrative Specialist. Ron served in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his service he returned to Stamford and began a career with Connecticut Light and Power that lasted nearly 45 years, many based in Glenbrook.

Ron's priority in life was taking care of his family. He was very proud of his children and how successful and happy each was. Ron enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and was a passionate reader who found great joy in discovering and sharing his favorite books with his family. He loved Cove Park and spent many hours walking and enjoying the beach along with the family's Golden Retriever, Henry. 

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia, and his children Jason (Sumana), Josh (Kara), his granddaughter, Ty, and his step daughters Cindy Rose and Marisa (Jeff). He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kathy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ron's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity that was dear to his heart.
