I am so very sorry for the loss of someone who clearly means so much to so many people. The apple does not fall far from the tree, and given how great I know her son Steve to be, she must have been amazing. May she be bathed in light and happiness for all of time.

Suzanne, Beth and Megan,
We are so sad to hear of Hebe’s passing. She was a great lady, certainly loved by all you women and your children. I was always so impressed by her strength and endurance. She was so interesting to talk to, inspirational I’m sure to you all as well.
We know she will be sorely missed by many but she is now with the love of her life and at peace. My mother is with my Dad now too and I think of her every day. It is bitter sweet .
love to all of you.

When I was both new to motherhood and living in New Jersey, Hebe was very kind to me. She introduced me to people in AAUW where we were both members, and included me in programs that would interest us. I remember her taking me to an embroidery program at Bloomingdale's that we both thoroughly
enjoyed. Hebe was kind, had exquisite taste and was a good neighbor.

I feel so very fortunate to have met and known Nana for as long as I did. I’m extremely happy my children were able to know Nana as well. She was wonderfully refined in the day-to-day details. The way she would take the time to hand-write you a note, engage you in conversation or tell a story about her late husband Pa will always be treasured memories.
In a word I feel she was so very elegant. Belying this elegance was her strength and toughness. In her mid to late 90’s, she came to our house for the first time. While taking a tour of the place, she traversed three high flights of stairs, shunning me when I offered her a chair to have a seat on a landing during the climb. “Getting old aint’ for sissies”, she’d say. Nana, I remain so impressed with how elegant you made it look.

Hebe and I were both members of AAUW in Livingston.I came to know and love Hebe. She was the first to volunteer and the last to leave when any event had to be planned and executed. When we had to merge with the Montclair branch as our members aged and it became difficult to attend meetings and functions we kept in touch by phone and would often meet in town and at the supermarket. She always had a smile and news about other members. The last time I saw her she told me that she was going to move to be near her daughter and we cried a little but I told her that she was doing the right thing.I will remember her always as a woman of spirit and grace who lived her life to the fullest.

I was an election co-worker of Hebe for several years at Riker Hill School.
She was a lovely person and I always looked forward to working with her.
Over the years she developed warm relationships with the voters. One couple, who were both deaf, always came to the polls with pictures to share news of their two sons, and eventually grandsons, with Hebe. One time they brought a wedding album to show her.
She was proud of her family.
She lived a fulfilled life.
It was a privilege to know her.
