Obituary of Martha Kesisoglou Michalatos

Martha Avramidis Kesisoglou Michalatos

On the morning of Saturday, December 1, 2018, just 17 days after the passing of her loving husband of 52 years, Martha Michalatos closed her eyes to join him at rest in eternal peace.

Born in Piraeus, Greece on August 23, 1943, she was 75 years old. Martha was the treasured daughter of Avram and Christina Avramidis who predeceased her by many years. Separated by two continents, the closeness she shared with her younger brother, Stathis, was as if they had never spent a day apart, she cherished him and was so incredibly proud of him. Martha is also survived by her nieces Christina Avramidis Tost and Sophie Avramidis who live in France as well as a brother-in-law, Stelios Michalatos, sister-in-law, Angelica Michalatos and niece Sophia-Louisa Michalatos.

Martha had a deep love for her husband, Ilias, the time they shared together was built on devotion; supporting each other through each season of their lives. They were married in November of 1966 and had their first daughter, Sonia in 1967, soon after Martha and Ilias took their next journey in life and moved from Greece to Stamford, CT. While here, Martha nurtured her family and built a loving environment for them to grow and thrive. By 1973 they added to their family and had a second daughter, Christina. Martha was a warm, loving and patient mother, she praised her children’s successes, encouraged their life decisions, and supported them through all of life’s ups and downs. Martha’s most valuable lesson to her daughters was of loyalty to family and friends, her relationships were devoted to being trustworthy, understanding and never casting judgement.

Martha has left her daughter Sonia Michalatos behind, for whom she held a great tenderness and her two grandsons, Jacob and Robert Beloin who gave her their Yiayia joy and laughter. Her daughter, Christina Michalatos-Kavanaugh and son-in-law, Robert Kavanaugh, who she was selflessly devoted to and two granddaughters, Chloe and Nicole who will wear their Yiayia’s high heel shoes for years to come.
