Obituary of Albert Joseph Liebelt, Jr

Albert Joseph Liebelt Jr., a resident of New Canaan, CT., died peacefully on November 18, 2018 at Norwalk Hospital as a result of a spinal cord injury. He was surrounded by his loving family. 


Born on February 9, 1930 in Astoria, N.Y., Bert was the son of Albert and Anastasia Liebelt. He attended Bishop Laughlin High School in Brooklyn and graduated from Fordham University in 1951. Bert served as a pilot and Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. 


Bert was employed by the New York Telephone Company, Coopers and Lybrand, and eventually co-founded the management recruiting firm,Ward-Liebelt Associates, in Westport, CT.


An active member of St. Aloysius Parish, Bert also volunteered in the church office and frequently drove seniors to Mass. He was the VP of the New Canaan Men's Club, the New Canaan Exchange Club, and a member of the Stamford Yacht Club. Some of his hobbies included playing Bridge, gardening, and cooking. 


Bert truly enjoyed the company of others, especially his friends and family. He will always be remembered for his genuine kindness and heart-warming smile. 


Bert is survived by his wife and love of his life, Arline, who he was married to for the past 62 years. He was pre deceased by his daughter Andrea Liebelt of Ventura, CA,and his brother Donald Liebelt of New York, N.Y. Bert is also survived by his daughters Lisa Koslo of Stamford, CT, and Michele Smith of Matthews, NC. Additionally, Bert was survived by his five adoring grandchildren; Elizabeth Koslo, Amanda Koslo, William Koslo, Andrew Smith and Aedan Smith. 


A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 2:30 pm at St. Aloysius Church 21 Cherry St New Canaan, CT. There will be no calling hours but the family will be greeting friends in the narthex of the church beginning at 2:00pm. Interment will immediately follow the Mass at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan, CT. Funeral arrangements are being made by Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home, Stamford (203)-359-9999. 


It should be noted the church and funeral home will not be receiving flowers but a monetary contribution may considered instead to The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County.
