Obituary of Ilias (Louie) Michalatos
Ilias (Louie) Michalatos
On the morning of Wednesday, November 14, 2018, Ilias Michalatos, 82, devoted husband, father and grandfather closed his eyes and passed away into eternal peace.
Born in Piraeus, Greece on September 6, 1936. Ilias was a dedicated son to his parents, Haridimos and Sophia until their passing. Ilias was predeceased by his sister, Androniki, to whom he had an unwavering commitment to protecting for all her life. He is survived by his brother, Stelios Michalatos, sister-in-law, Angelica Michalatos, brother-in-law, Stathis Avramidis, his niece Sophia-Louise Michalatos and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ilias was mesmerized and deeply in love with his wife who he is survived by, Martha, and was devoted to her happiness and wellbeing for 52 years of marriage, until his last breath. He had two daughters, Sonia Michalatos, and Christina Michalatos-Kavanaugh, who he was immensely proud of; he told them often they were his reason for living. Determined to raise a strong family, he succeeded by being a loving and adoring father, protector, story-teller, philosopher, moral guide, and teacher of life lessons. Sonia gave him two grandsons, who he treasured, Jacob Ilias and Robert Beloin, who cherished their Papou for many years. Christina's husband, Robert Kavanaugh was a trusted support. They gave him two sweet granddaughters, Chloe and Nicole Kavanaugh who adored their Papou and his magic.
As a result of WWII, Ilias witnessed unimaginable sorrow as a child in Greece, experiences which shaped him. He was a soldier in the Greek Army, became a Merchant Marine, traveling the world over. He made strong loyal friendships in his journey in life.
Ilias moved his young family to Stamford in 1968, and by 1980 had defied all obstacles and became an Electrical Contractor in Stamford and opened his own business, Alfa Electric of Stamford. Further determined to better himself for his family, Ilias studied tirelessly and earned his State of CT Electrical Inspector's License; making his family more proud than we ever imagined!
