Obituary of Richard John Rosum

Richard John Rosum, a lifelong resident of Stamford, CT died on Sunday, November 4, 2018.  Rick was born on May 4, 1939 to the late Paul and Anna (Turcer) Rosum.  He is survived by his brother Paul A. and Carol (Santy) Rosum of Santa Rosa Beach, Fl., his sister MaryAnn Hinterneder and husband Dittmar of Darien.  He was predeceased by his brother Robert.  Rick is survived by his wife Judith “Judy” Thayer Rosum and his children Gregory of Spencer, Ma. and Andrea “Dee” recently of Playa del Rey, Ca. and now of Stamford, CT;  two grandsons, Jonathan and Christopher Rosum of Spencer,  MA. and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Rick graduated from Stamford High School (1957) and the University of Connectcut (1961).  Always athletic, Rick especially excelled at baseball, and in August of 1954, with his team and coaches (one of them was his dad!) went to Washington D.C. and brought home the first Babe Ruth League World Championship title.  Years later he was proud to coach his son’s Northrop Little League Team.  And always, the Yankee’s #1 fan.

Insurance and real estate have been the focus of Ricks career. A vice president of sales for a Stamford-based insurance agency, Rick earned the CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) designation, and managed the life and health insurance departments for the firm until the late 1970”s.  Then, with a group of friends, he began a real estate agency and a whole new career that was to last more than four decades.  Heritage Associates, Country Living, and Halstead Property were the firms he was proud to represent.  A devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and brother, Ricks calm, steady manner, sense of humor, and kindness endeared him to family and friends.  His deep Christian faith was the bedrock of his life and his unfailing support in times of uncertainty.  He had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church since birth, and at times had served as a Sunday school teacher, pastoral assistant, and member of the Church Council.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to your favorite charity, or to one of Ricks: The Wounded Warriors Project or Shriners Hospital for children.  To extend personal condolences to the family, please visit www.gallagherfuneralhome.com.
