Obituary of Frederick C. DeLuca

Frederick C. DeLuca was born October 17, 1930 in Bridgeport and passed away October 25, 2018 at his home in Stamford. He leaves his beloved wife of 55 years, Joan (Dolan) DeLuca, his daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and David Young of Clarksville, MD and Kathy and Judge Gerald Fox, III of Stamford, as well as five adoring grandchildren who lit up his life, Christopher, Brennan, Meghan, Kelly and Sean. Mr. DeLuca graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport. He studied music at The Julliard School and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Western Connecticut State University. His career plans were sidelined by being drafted into the Army Band at Ft. Polk, where he played in parades and ceremonies around the U.S. Turning down a transfer to play in the 1st Army Band at Ft. Hood, he instead enrolled in Columbia University, earning a master's and a six-year degree in music education and pursuing a Ph.D., which he completed ABD, and returned to teaching in Stamford. It was through teaching at Belltown School that he met and married the love of his life, fourth-grade teacher Joan Dolan. After retiring from the Stamford Public School System, he became the Director of Project Music. Mr. DeLuca enjoyed traveling around the world with his wife, rooting for the Yankees, and cultivating his roses. He also sang with choirs at St. Cecilia's church, where he and his wife were active members.
