William C. Scanlan

William C. Scanlan "Bill" - entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 17th. He was born on October 9, 1941, in Boston, MA, but later made his home in Stamford, CT.
Bill grew up in Somerville, MA and attended Catholic schools in the Boston area. As a child and young adult, he won many science fairs in the Catholic Schools of Boston. He attended Christopher Columbus High School in the North End of Boston where he played football and was named to the All-Catholic Team all 4 years and the All-State Team 3 years, as a guard. He went on to play football at Boston University before an injury forced him to leave the school and finish his education at St. Philip Neri Seminary. He was in the insurance and financial business for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard and later a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus in Stamford.
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Marie "Tria" (Dorish) Scanlan; his parents, James, and Catherine (Byrne) Scanlan and his twin brother, John Scanlan. His is survived by his sons Sean and Jason; his daughters-in-law, Jeanne (Meehan) and Jennifer (Deng); and his adoring grandchildren, Drew, Connor, Jason, and Bella Scanlan. He is also survived by his brother, Brian; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and David Smith, David and Bobbi Dorish, Johnny Dorish and Kathy Scanlan. Additionally, Bill is survived by a loving extended family of relatives and friends.
Bill was an enthusiastic sports fan. He was known throughout the rinks and fields in Connecticut and beyond, attending every game for his sons and then his grandchildren. He boasted about the number of hockey games he attended over his life. He was also an avid reader; he especially loved James Patterson novels and any good mystery or action-thriller. He was a big fan of country western movies and shows, and anyone who knew him knew about his love of lighthouses. But his grandchildren were his real pride and joy. He made friends everywhere he went and always had a story to share. He will be remembered for his selflessness, generosity, mild manner (most of the time) and kind heart.

Friends may call at the Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home (next to the Knights of Columbus) 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford on Thursday, October 25th from 4-8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 26th at 11 a.m. at St. Leo's Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford.
