Obituary of Allan Clamage

Allan B. Clamage of Stratford passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice in Branford on May 3 after a lengthy illness. He was born April 6, 1929 in Detroit, MI. Allan was predeceased by his parents Pearl and Maurice Clamage, and his first wife Marthe Epstein Clamage. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Phyllis Peckar Clamage, his sons Eric, Marc, and Daniel Clamage, and his stepchildren David, Michael and James Peckar and Susan Peckar Wiedorn. In addition, he is survived by his brother Lawrence Clamage, 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
After moving to Stamford in 1960, Mr. Clamage worked as an advertising executive in New York City and later for the Stamford firm of Marquardt and Roche. After retiring from business, Mr. Clamage avidly pursued his three passions: travel, photography, and contract bridge. Mr. Clamage was a Grand Master bridge player, past president of both the Connecticut Bridge Association and the New England Bridge Association, and longtime editor of the Connecticut Bridge Association newsletter, The Kibitzer. Mr. Clamage once noted that "life without bridge is not worth living." He was also an avid follower of intellectual pursuits and was possibly the last individual on the face of the planet to scrupulously sort his library using the Dewey Decimal System.

Mr. Clamage will be interred Sunday, May 6 at 12 p.m. at Agudath Sholom Cemetery in Stamford, next to his beloved first wife Marthe. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
