My heart was filled with sadness to learn of the sudden passing of someone I will always know as Joey. Through my ten years of being on the sidelines of New Canaan pop warner games as the EMT I met Joey at the beginning and later watched his little brother Kevin . The extended family Joey has is amazing. My schedule does not allow me to break away but I send my condolences from a far.

To Joes beautiful mother Katie and family. I pray for God to give you the strength to heal the deep sadness in your heart, especially because Joe couldn’t ever stand to see anyone he loved in pain. That’s because Joe was a very special person. He had the ability to make a whole room of miserable people turn into a whole room of laughter and joy within seconds. His heart was what I fell in love with...especially his heart when with children. He had a true gift with them. There’s not one child that ever met joe that didn’t end up attached to his hip. My son fell in love with Joe the minute he met him. I remember the day he met all my 6 younger nieces and by the night they all called him uncle Joe. My sisters would call me and always tell me their kids won’t stop asking when uncle Joes coming over. His patience and attentiveness to make all these children so happy was what I believed was his calling in life. Coaching, counseling and guiding children or youth was what joe was born to do. The most disappointing thing is Joe never got to see how special he was through the eyes of others. Unfortunately, Joes inner demons got too strong and overpowered the REAL JOE! The real Joe was one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. The real Joe has a bigger heart than a room full of thousands of people. The real Joe would stand up for anyone in trouble and give his last dime to a stranger. The real Joe was selfless and cared for every living thing and would help anyone that needed it. The real Joe was my soulmate and my best friend. The real Joe is who I’ll remember. I’ll always know how he treated me when he was the real Joe. I know I’ll never find love like that again and it kills me inside but I’m blessed to have got to know The Real Joe at all. Joes sensitively and over loving heart came from the way he was raised. It came from his mother and father who showed him how to love. I thank you Katie for raising the man you did. His disease was not him...The real Joe is that little boy in the army suit on Halloween, the little boy walking with his dad to the field and that little boy who slept in his moms bed until he was 11. He loved his family, especially His mommy more than anyone will ever know. He still does and always will. The only thing Different now is that he is free from the pain he couldn’t overcome and we all have the The Real Joe, with the most loving soul as our new guardian angel. We are the ones now blessed with that. God bless you all! I love you Joey! Forever and always! ❤️ Your Ali D...your evergreen!
