Obituary of Charles Donald Smith

Don Smith, passed away on October 6, 2017 was born Charles Donald Smith on June 19th, 1930 in Stamford, CT. He was predeceased by his parents Frank J. Smith and Alice Amerson Smith, his son Michael S. Smith, his sister A. Muriel Smith Riley and his brother F. Kenneth Smith.

Don was a devoted father, brother and uncle and diehard Giant fan. He followed his baseball Giants from the Polo Grounds and remained dedicated when they moved to San Francisco, and it didn’t stop at baseball either. He was a dedicated NY Giant football fan, as he squirmed in the chair avoiding the blocks as the running back “juked’ his way down field.  After graduating Stamford High School he served in the Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War were he learned computers. After the army he worked for Pitney Bowes, and then spent most of his career with the Darien Board of Education and the Darien Town Hall as the Director of Data Processing from which he retired. During his younger years he enjoyed spending time with his family and sailing LI Sound. Following retirement he became a “snowbird” spending time in North Myrtle Beach and traveling with his cat until he fulfilled his dream and moved to the city of Longs, Sc., and took up the game of golf.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen A. Smith of Norwalk, his ex - wife Ursula Smith of Boothbay Maine, his niece Mary Beth Riley of Stamford, nephew Melville T. Riley of Bridgeport, his grandniece Kristen Riley Kilbourn and her husband Kent Kilbourn and their three children Riley, Kelly and James, grandniece, Jennifer Riley McDonald and her husband Daniel and their two children Katelyn and Ryan, his sister – in – law Dolores Meeker Smith, his nieces Debby Parker and her spouse and children, Pamela Smith and her spouse and children, Melissa Toth and her spouse and children, and Aimee McDaniels and  her spouse.
