Obituary of Richard J. Makowski

Richard J. Makowski of Stamford, CT, formerly of Greenwich, CT died February 25, 2014 at the Westport Health Center. His passing at 65 was peaceful and within a Hospice setting. He was the brother to Mark Makowski of Groton, CT, sister Diane Czarnik and her family of New Fairfield, CT, brother in law Joseph Czarnik and an uncle to Jessica Makowski of Fergus Falls, MN. Other relatives include cousins Peter Krack of Danbury, CT and Jeffrey Krack of Carmel, NY. He was graduated from Greenwich High School and attended University of Connecticut. Richard was known as lover of plants and flowers. He could tell you the names of many; also had a gift for caring for them….to make them grow and blossom to their fullest beauty. Like many in Greenwich, he enjoyed driving down to Todd's Point and relaxing at the beach. Richard was one that had a remarkable memory of the Rock 'n Roll groups and singers of the 60s. Many a time he would come up with a name that no one else could recall. He was a person that could honestly say "I was at the original Woodstock festival in 1969." Richard worked in the landscaping field for many years, mostly for the town of Greenwich. He was proud of the way he manicured and maintained Binney Park as well as other local parklands. Many will remember him as a gentle, soft hearted man…tall, slender with a warm smile. Viewing will be held Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 1-4 PM at Shippan's Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home (same facility as Bosak Funeral Home) 453 Shippan Ave Stamford, CT. A private funeral mass will be held.
