Obituary of Madge Evande Turner

Madge Turner, age 79, entered eternal rest on January 29, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosella Wright. Madge grew up in Roses Valley, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. At an early age she went to live with her sister in Clarendon. There she followed her dream of becoming a teacher by starting a basic school and is remembered fondly by many of her students. She was a source of strength, love and support to all who knew her and to know her was to love her. She migrated to the United Sates in November of 1985 and settled in Stamford, Connecticut. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at St. Joseph Hospital and Tandet Nursing Home for many years. She retired from Tandet in 2007. After retiring, she volunteered at Tandet before moving to Mount Vernon, New York to live with her daughters. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist church. She taught Sunday School for twenty-seven years. She never lost her faith. We will miss her cooking, her laughter, her witty humor, her singing and her tranquility but most of all we will miss having her here with us. She was predeceased by her husband, Lincoln Turner. Madge is survived by her devoted daughters; Barbara Williams, Marjorie Turner, Gaynel Turner, Angella Turner-Mitchell, Sybil Turner-Bartley and Janet Tuner. In addition, she is also survived by her adopted daughter, Claudette; stepdaughter, Annie; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
