Edward R. Hanley
12/6/1941 - 9/6/2023

Edward Ronald Hanley, 81, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family at his side on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Edward, called Ron by family and friends, was born on December 6, 1941 to Angelina Renna and Edward J. Hanley in the Bronx, NY. In his childhood, Ron grew up on East 233rd and played whenever possible down at the Bronx River crayfishing, playing stickball, baseball and being the ringleader of the entire neighborhood. He loved spending time at the Bronx Zoo throughout his childhood, his adult life, and later became a strong supporter.

Ron attended St. Francis of Rome grammar school in the Bronx and graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School in New Rochelle. He worked upon graduation in New York City until he entered the Marine Corps Reserve in 1962. Ron proudly served our country which he greatly loved. He entered Local 3 NYC of the Electrical Workers Union and worked there as an electrician, later a foreman, and a superintendent. He was known as Eddie at work and was greatly admired for his precise skills and he excelled at all that he did. He was revered for his strong leadership by the members of Local 3 NYC. He was really loved and well respected by everyone on the job.

Ron married Mary Ann Tartaglia in 1964 and was the proud father of two sons, a daughter and proud grandfather. He is survived by his ex-wife Mary Ann, his sons, Ronald Joseph and wife Tracey, Christian Thomas, his daughter Jen Aline, his grandson Joseph Montimurro, his brother Robert Hanley and wife Corrine, his niece Kathy Kelly-Brown and husband James, nephew James Kelly and wife Lillian, great-nieces & nephews and cousins.

Ron loved telling his family, friends and colleagues the many stories of his childhood, Marine Corps and Local 3 NYC days. He had a contagious laugh and an amazing sense of humor.

Ron was predeceased by his sister Patricia Kelly, his father Edward J. Hanley and his mother Angelina Renna.

Ron was a generous supporter of many charities and helped countless people who were in need throughout his life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to St. Jude Children Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).

Ron’s family will be holding a private Memorial service.
