Obituary of Richard F. Grieb

Richard Frank Grieb

1934-2023

Grieb, Richard Frank of Stamford, Connecticut passed away peacefully under hospice care by the side of his loving wife on August 6, 2023. He was 89 years old. Richard “Dick” was married 62 years to his beloved wife Joyce (Spencer). Loving father of Susan G. Simon and her husband John of Wellesley, MA and Naples, FL; Lauren A. Dunlay and her husband Bob of Westford, MA and Lowell, MA; and Karen B. Inal and her husband Cem of New York, NY. Proud grandfather, affectionately known as “Pa,” to Abigail and Matthew Simon, Samuel Dunlay, and Leyla, Sonya, and Maya Inal.

Dick was born on July 10, 1934, in Queens, New York. He graduated from Queens College and received his MBA from New York University. He was a man of great faith, serving as an usher and lector at St. Clement Church. He was a true patriot, serving his country in the army at the time the Berlin Wall went up. He believed in and lived the American dream and devoted himself to creating a wonderful life for his family. His strong work ethic led him to successful careers at American Can Company and Rhone-Poulenc.

He loved discussing current events and he followed politics avidly. A longtime resident of Greenwich, he was civic-minded and served on the Greenwich Republican Town Committee. He had a wry sense of humor and was a strong, independent thinker. He always gave sage advice to his three daughters. He loved to play bridge and his favorite partner was his wife. He was a lifetime member of Innis Arden and cherished the time with his friends on the golf course. Later in life, he developed a strong bond with the men in his bible study group.

A private graveside service for his family will be held at the Stanwich Congregational Church Cemetery, and he will be buried with military honors.  Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home 104 Myrtle Ave Stamford, CT (203)-359-9999. To send on-line condolences to the family, please visit www.gallagherfuneralhome.com
