Obituary of George E. Ducanic

To my Veteran, George Ducanic,

I am going to have such great memories of you. Your love and support for your community, your passion for Toys for Tots, your passion to help others in need when that meant neglecting your own needs. You always made me feel loved with your kind words that will live with me forever.  When my mom passed away you told me "Jenny, just remember we are just passing by."  It's like you knew something but couldn't hurt me by telling me that that something was wrong with you. You saved me a seat no matter the occasion and I promise that I will always save you one.  No matter how far you are you will always be with me in spirit.

Rest in Peace George. You were like a grandfather that I never had. You will always be in my heart.

George Ducanic, 88 years old of Stamford Connecticut passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital on July 15, 2023.  George was born on August 22, 1934 in Danbury to the late George and Suzanna Ducanic.  George is survived by his nieces Cindi VanDemarlt of Danbury, CT and Nicole LeFrancois of Wildwood, Florida and great nieces Amelia LeFrancois and Evangeline Lefrancois of Wildwood, Florida.

For many of us who serve in the military, service to country and community never ends, George was that man. After George's service in the US Navy in Korea during the Korean Conflict. George worked for FD Rich as a manager. George needed more.George noticed a need for help for returning Veterans and revived Oscar H. Cowan, American Legion Post 3 in Stamford, CT. George became the Commander and a Veteran's Service Officer and was able to help hundreds of Veterans to getthe help they needed. In his search to find Service members in need. George served in theVFW, Catholic War Veterans, and the Stamford Veterans Council. His contributions grew whenhe realized the children in his community neededhelp as well. Over 30 years ago, George brought Toys for Tots to Fairfield County. He formed the Stamford American Legion Baseball Team and raised money to offset costs so that many children can play. His accolades go into the thousands. George was a spiritual man. 

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and was past president of the Holy Name Society.

George enjoyed fishing and was a race car enthusiast, participating in races in Danbury, CT. George was a published author, writing several short stories and poems. George's thoroughly enjoyed golf and is on record for getting 2, "hole in ones", the last one at 79 years of age in tournament play.
