Obituary of Esther Hanley Tobin
Esther Hanley Tobin, of Stamford, passed away on June 4, 2023 after a long illness. She was 87 years old.
A lifelong Stamford resident, born on July 23, 1935 to Joseph and Esther Hanley. She is pre-deceased by her husband, The Honorable Richard J. Tobin. She is survived by her children, (Meg Tobin, Jay and Sue Tobin, Neil and Katy Tobin, David Tobin and Tom and Courtney Simon) as well as her 7 grandchildren (William, Patrick, Elizabeth, Jack, Sam, Brady Simon and Charlie Simon).
Esther is a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford and Trinity College in Washington, D.C. She received her Masters Degree in education at Columbia University before teaching at Burdick Middle School in Stamford.
Esther was active in the Stamford community, volunteering for many worthwhile causes, including Friends of The Ferguson Library, Meals on Wheels, The Shippan Point Garden Club and at numerous schools where her children attended.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church for more than 40 years and her Catholic faith was very important to her. Esther enjoyed spending time at the Stamford Yacht Club, where she was an active member and a strong tennis player. She enjoyed travelling and especially enjoyed going on international cruises with her husband. Family trips were always very important to her as well.
Her family and friends will miss her love and generosity, as well as her terrific sense of humor. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was always there to support her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea at 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 10 am. Internment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery in Darien. No calling hours will be held.
