Obituary of Rose Maria Vukson
Rose M. Vukson, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023. Rose was born in Arena, Calabria, Italy on December 15, 1943 to Francesco and Antoinetta (Franze) Calabrese.
Rose emigrated to the United States in 1955 with her parents and her brother Michael. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1962 where she was awarded the Golden Thimble for her expertise in sewing. After graduation, she attended hairdressing school and worked as a hairdresser until she started her family with her husband, Bruce.
Rose enjoyed bowling and was in several leagues, winning numerous awards while making lifelong friends. She also enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening, trips to the casino and spending time at the family home in Vermont entertaining family and friends. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was their biggest fan and supporter.
She was a member of St. Cecilia Parish and the Springdale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She and her husband were foster parents with Catholic Charities. Together, they fostered many newborn babies awaiting to go to their adoptive homes. She formed a special bond with each child and the families they were adopted into.
Rose's greatest roles in life were that of a devoted wife, a caring mother, and “Nee Nee” to her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Rose was predeceased by her brother, Michael Calabrese, and an infant sister. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bruce Vukson of New Canaan, her daughters Linda Kuehn (Mark) and Patty Lefort (Lou) of Stamford. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Jonathan, Nicholas and Mackenzie Kuehn, Jenna, Jacob and Jeffrey Lefort and Icey Han who will forever cherish her memory. Rose is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Cecilia Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Darien, CT. No calling hours will be held.
