Obituary of Jesus Ricardo Iglesias

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Jesus Ricardo Iglesias, known to many as Suso. He was 64. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay on October 29, 1958. The second son of Jose Iglesias Blanco and Aurora Vazquez Nieto, of O Campo de Rial, Spain.

He spent his childhood in the Punta Rieles barrio of Montevideo with his younger brother Vicente Oscar Iglesias  and playing with Club Nacional de Fútbol. He later played for Club Sud America. In 1982, he migrated to the United States to meet with his older brother Jose Maria Iglesias in Stamford, CT. Suso settled in and followed his older brother’s footsteps becoming a butcher and working for more than 35 years, first at the Shippan ShopRite Grade A and later at ShopRite Grade A Newfield. He was more than a colleague to his co-workers, he was a friend and to some, he was a mentor. Whether he helped you at the meat counter or greeted you as you passed by, it was always followed by a smile, handshake or hug.

Suso was generous, kind, loving and funny. His smile and comments brought life to the table and into the room, always making us laugh. He was passionate about food, cooking, style, music and of course the sport of fútbol, preferably from Spain. Above all other passions, he loved family. He took pride in his family roots and connecting with many of his relatives in Spain.

Suso is survived and remembered by both his brothers, Jose Maria, of Stamford, CT and Vicente Oscar, and his wife Silvia Malrechauffe of Montevideo, Uruguay. His nieces Nayr Aurora and Yazmin Iglesias, together with their spouses and children, Ray Champ and Alexander Vega, Madalina Sol, Sierra June and Joa Lakai all of Stamford. His nephews; Diego German, wife Victoria Mussi, their daughter Maria Guadelupe and Maximiliano Iglesias, all of Montevideo, Uruguay. His aunt, Avelina Ramos and cousins; Eduardo Ramos of North Bergen, NJ and Javier Blanco of Montevideo, Uruguay. His daughter, Carol Roncagliolo, husband Dario Fernández Pérez, his granddaughters he adored, Emma Fernández Roncagliolo, Kate Fernández Roncagliolo and Inés Fernández Roncagliolo of Asturias, Spain and The Netherlands. And countless aunts, uncles and cousins in Spain.

Suso is also survived by his second wife, Maria Auxiliadora Pernia Ramirez and her loving sons, Nerwin de Jesús Vasquez Pernia, his wife Oskarelly Villalobos and Flannery Giampiero Marquez Pernia both of Norwalk, CT and her young grandchildren, Bless and Holy Vasquez. As well as her extended family. All of whom accompanied him and brought him joy during what turned out to be the last chapter of his life.

He was predeceased by his father Jose, in 1963, his mother, Aurora, in 2012, his cousin, Danny Ramos, in 1994 and his sister-in-law, Marisol Iglesias, in 2020.
