Obituary of Andrew Jerome Sanzo

Andrew Jerome Sanzo passed away on May 3, 2023, after a courageous battle against a virulent form of meningitis and related complications. A lifelong resident of Stamford, CT, he was born on September 19, 1986.  A graduate of Stamford High School, Andrew was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Connecticut, where he received the prestigious Babbidge Scholar award. He was also named to the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Psi academic honor societies. Andrew then went on to earn his Master of Business Administration, also from the University of Connecticut.

Andrew was an entrepreneur who founded and ran Buyers’ Market LLC, which caters to high-net-worth individuals who invest in rare collectibles. He was a recognized expert numismatist who attended specialty industry conferences, and he was working on a new collectible investment fund before his untimely illness. In addition, Andrew provided commercial real estate consulting services for a variety of private clients. He also guest lectured in Finance at area universities, with a particular interest in Options Theory  and Modern Portfolio Theory.

Andrew was a skilled tennis player who captained his high school team and entertained athletic scholarship offers before an injury. He was a talented musician who played guitar for his friends and publicly at several venues. Andrew also was a technophile who built his own computers. He was an enthusiastic golfer at local area courses. Several of his friends knew and valued him as the Commissioner of a highly competitive fantasy football league, which was the source of great joy for all participants, thanks to Andrew’s firm yet mirthful guidance. Nobody was spared from his always comical challenges and taunts.

More than any of his skills and talents, Andrew was a treasured friend to all who knew him. Quick with his wit, possessing a keen intellect and a deep curiosity in all subjects from music to physics to politics to philosophy, Andrew was always available to provide advice or lend a consoling shoulder to anybody who needed it. Known for his enormous heart and love for all, there was nobody who met Andrew who was not his friend.  At any time of day or night, Andrew made himself available to anybody with a question or in need of help.

Andrew is survived by his loving parents, Shelley and Jerome Sanzo of Bluffton, SC, by his sisters Stacey Davis-Sanzo of Fayetteville, NC and Laura Sanzo of Lake Balboa, CA, and by his dearly beloved girlfriend, Amy Szydlo of Stamford, CT.  There are no words to describe how he will be missed.

Although he left this world far too young, he brought joy to all in his life and the world is a better place for the light and love he brought to those who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at the Thomas Gallagher Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Street, Stamford CT 06902, on Monday, May 8, 2023 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, with a reception to follow at The Waters Edge at Giovanni’s, 2748 Boston Post Road, Darien CT 06820
