Obituary of Jane Mary Karwoski

Jane Mary (Kosinski) Karwoski, one hundred years old, a lifelong resident of Stamford, entered eternal peace April 24, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving daughters at Stamford Hospital. Jane was born on April 18, 1923, to Mary Bogacki Kosinski and Joseph P. Kosinski in Stamford, CT.

In the 1940’s and prior to her marriage, Jane worked at the Yale & Towne Manufacturing Co., as a comptometer operator.  There, she developed lifelong friendships with a group of eleven co-workers, whose friendship endured over 8o years, in what the group proudly referred to as the “Y&T Girls. For decades, the group met once a month at one of the members’ homes, always for Halloween at Jane’s.

Jane also worked in several financial organizations, including The Union Trust Company, Piedmont Advisory Group, Gintel & Company and for Gilbert Alexandre.  She was devoted to her family and grandchildren, instilling a legacy that will live on through all the lives she touched.  Never one to be idle, Jane enjoyed making things for others, whether it be a knitted baby blanket for a friend’s newborn, hundreds of knit preemie hats for the Big Hearts, Little Hats program with the American Heart Association, or simply whipping up a favorite recipe to share with a friend. Until her passing, Jane was still clipping recipes to try someday. Her memory will live on in our hearts as we remember her for her sense of humor, pride in her family roots and heritage, and most importantly her kind heart and strength in the face of unimaginable sorrow.

Jane had a deep and abiding Catholic faith, something she passed on to her children. She was a devout member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Stamford, where she served as an extraordinary minister.  For many years she attended daily Mass there. During her later years, she streamed daily Mass online, and joined her family in praying the rosary daily. Jane and her family were charter members of the Newfield Swim and Tennis Club, where she spent her summers with her children in the 1960’s and 70’s, supporting youth and adult tennis programs.

Jane was predeceased by her husband, Eugene W. Karwoski, Sr., and her son, Eugene W. Karwoski, Jr. She is survived by her loving daughters, Mary Jane Karwoski of Hoover, AL and Suzanne Jonker of New Canaan, CT, and one son, Thomas of Stamford, CT. She is also survived by her two loving grandchildren, by whom she was known as “Grammy,” Alexandra Jonker of New York City and Meredith Jonker of Austin, TX.

She was the last surviving sibling of her family, predeceased by sisters Sophia and Irene, and brothers John and Stanley Kosinski, as well as her parents, Mary, and Joseph Kosinski.

A mass in celebration of Jane’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at St. Aloysius RC Church, 21 Cherry St in New Canaan, CT.  In lieu of calling hours, the family will receive those wishing to share condolences in the church narthex prior to the memorial mass at 10 AM. Mass will follow at 10:30 AM.  Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT
