Obituary of Sally Kennedy Morgan

Sally Kennedy Morgan, 81, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away on March 23, 2023.

A longtime Greenwich resident, Sally was born on March 8, 1942 in Allentown, PA to Sterla Fritzinger Kennedy and Thomas Lyle Kennedy. Their family was made complete with the arrival of her dear brother, Thomas Lyle Kennedy II. Their childhood was filled with games of kick-the-can, picnics with Pennsylvania Dutch foods, playing organized sports, and family outings to Dorney Park amusement park.

A gifted scholar, Sally attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA, leaving halfway through to get married to James Jay Morgan and settle in Princeton, NJ.  They welcomed their first daughter, Lauren Louise and later, Tracey Elizabeth. With her usual determination and inquisitive mind, she continued to pursue her college degree after motherhood, taking night classes at Rutgers University and graduating in 1971 as an English major.

In 1972, the family moved to Greenwich, where Sally’s passionate nature led her to pursue many diverse interests- volunteering at a number of community-based organizations, becoming a nationally ranked paddle tennis player, pursuing an interior design degree at New York School of Interior Design, becoming a bridge Life Master, and designing flower and herb gardens that were photographed by magazines. She also loved to travel, particularly to Ireland where she held a dual citizenship. She was one of the first groups of American tourists allowed into the Soviet Union in the 1970s and could be found hiking up Machu Picchu in her later years.

Most important to Sally was family. A fierce supporter of those she loved, she felt most complete when they were near. Whether discussing politics, movies, wine or Rafael Nadal’s latest tennis match, she reveled in banter and found that time most precious. She instilled the importance of family to those who survive her.

She leaves behind her daughters Lauren McDermott and Tracey Morgan, her son-in-law Tommy Hudgins, her granddaughter Ryan Hudgins, her two nephews Todd and Andrew Kennedy, her niece Leigh Kennedy, and her adored sister-in-law Nancy Kennedy.

A private service will be later this Spring in Allentown, PA. In Sally’s memory, please consider making a donation to The Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet at Bridgeport Hospital, established for her beloved deceased brother to benefit hospitalized pediatric patients. https://foundation.bridgeporthospital.org/dr-tom-kennedy-toy-closet/
