To the Cingari family, I want to thank you all for being such an important part of my early years. At 17, I worked for Sam in the Shippan store alonside Donna who would come to work after her skating lesson.
Then in my mid-20s I became the "Advocate girl," and worked with Dominic and Rocky every week on the newspaper advertisement. I also worked with Chip and Tommy. Every time I went into the store to see Dominic, Sam was at the front of the store. He was the first person I saw and he always said hello. The first time I went into the store as the Advocate girl, 10 years had passed since I worked there. I said hello to Sam and asked, "Do you remember me?" And I'll never forget what he said: "You were the best cashier I ever had." I really appreciated that.
One year I was selling raffle tickets for one of the Darien volunteer fire departments. While in the store I asked Sam if he would buy a ticket. He bought two and put one in Tommy's name and one in Mary's. The ticket that had Mary's name on it won, and Mary received a candyapple red BMW convertible. I was always proud of that moment.
I remember Sam as kind and friendly. I had seen as recently as last year in the Commerce Drive store. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you Cingari family for being such an important force in the community.

Dear Cingari Family,
Our deepest condolences in the loss of your dad. It is, indeed, a loss to the whole community. We have such fond memories of your dad greeting us in the store, and anywhere else we had the pleasure to see him and your mom. He was always so well dressed, complete with a smile on his face! My mom said they met when they both in their 20’s, when she worked on the accounting records for the store. We hope all of your wonderful memories and the strength of family brings you comfort during this time.
Fondly,
Charlotte (DeBeradinis) Rose

So sorry for your loss, Sam was a wonderful person, he was kind and person you could talk too. I worked for him in the Shippan store back in the mid 80's. He did a lot of my training, and he had patience for everyone in the class, he knew right away if you were going to work well with the company or not. Those were fun times, and even back then, people really liked working for him. Sending prayers to the Cingari family. Sam will still be watching out for everyone. God bless

To all of the Cingari Family,
Your father was so kind. I can’t think of a time when I would see him at the store, at a party at my parents house, etc. that he didn’t look me directly in my eyes and give me his full attention. He was just so nice, regardless if you were 13 or 30. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a good man and very well thought of by my parents too. You are in my prayers. Moira Fahey-Ullrich.

One of my first jobs as a teenager was as a bag boy at the Grade A in Darien in 1970-71. Sam set the bar for customer service and taught me (just by observing him) how to comport myself in a retail enviornment. I have had a good career in retail and I truly believe Sam set the example I have tried to follow.

So sorry to read of Mr. Cingari's passing. Altho it's been many years since I've seen any of the Cingaris, when we lived in Shippan we always went to Grade A and were treated wonderfully. The family is very close and very sweet as I recall being neighbors. May he rest in peace and sending prayers to the family during this difficult time. God bless.
