Lucile Buckley Callahan
In the early hours of Saturday, March 4, 2023, Lucile Buckley Callahan peacefully passed away with her family by her side. Lucile was 86 years old.
Lucile was born on August 11, 1936 in Bronx, New York. She attended the Mount
Vernon, NY schools and early in her life worked at Mutual of New York and Lever Brothers in Manhattan. She met her future husband, Robert Emmett Callahan in 1953, one week before Bob shipped out for a 2-year tour of duty in Korea as a high speed radio operator with the U.S. Army’s 24th Infantry Division, 19th Regiment.
Lucile and Robert married on April 11, 1959. In addition to being a loving and nurturing mother to six children, Lou enjoyed travel, especially to Ireland, London and Bermuda, the
theatre, reading, cooking, feeding peanuts to the chipmunks in her rose garden, and relished spending time with her husband. She had a passion for crochet and embroidery, producing many blankets for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed many winter seasons in her timeshare at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont. Lucile and Bob also sang with the St. Cecilia choir for many years.
Lucile is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert E. Callahan, daughter Theresa (Tonnessen), son Robert E. Jr., daughter Mary Louise, daughter Maureen, son Michael and daughter Jeanine (Haberny). She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:30am at
the Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue in Stamford. Reception downstairs in John
McDermott Hall immediately after. No wake will be held.
In lieu of flowers, Lucile would like donations made to Alzheimer’s Association.
