Obituary of Christine M Sommerer

Christine Sommerer, 92, passed away on Valentine’s Day surrounded by her children after an extended illness. She rejoins her beloved husband and high school sweetheart, Charles Sommerer. They were married for 51 years at the time of his death in 2001.

She is survived by her children, Steven, Diane, and Carol Sommerer; her sister, Theresa Alden of Portland, ME; and a niece, Michelle McElwain, of Portland, ME.

Chris was predeceased by her parents, Christos and Angelina Kanel; and siblings, Charles Kanel, Margaret Serafin, Kathryn Kanel, Andrew Kanel, and Christy Kanel.

She was born in Stamford and was a lifelong resident. She raised her children with kindness and affection, and was deeply devoted to her family.  

She had a great love for children and animals and was a lunch mother at Our Lady Star of the Sea School, providing hugs to all. She was a volunteer at the soup kitchen for many years, preparing wonderful home cooked meals.  She loved to read and travel.

Her gentle presence will be dearly missed by her family and friends. May God watch over her.
