Obituary of Ronald Alonzo DeCamp

Ronald Alonzo DeCamp was called to his Heavenly home by the Lord on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Cape Cod Hospital. He was the son of the late Warren King DeCamp and Mary MacDonald DeCamp of Stamford. Born at Norwalk Hospital on April 18, 1931, he lived most of his life in Stamford until he and his wife moved to Cape Cod 16 years ago. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, John Alan DeCamp, in 2011, and by four brothers: Brian, who died at 2 years of age; Warren Jr., who was killed in Italy during World War II; John and Ernest, both Purple Heart Marine veterans. Ronald himself was honored to have served as a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corp. for four years. A master carpenter and builder, Ron was proud to be a 50-year gold card member of Carpenters Local 210. He was renown for his skillful and artful work on homes and mansions, mostly in the Greenwich, CT area. He was humbled to rebuild the Tabernacle at St. John's Church in Stamford. Ron also and in designed and single-handedly built their own house in Shippan. Ronald and his wife were very active in Project Children and for many years brought 2 children from Northern Ireland to spend summers at their home. He was a terrific cook and prolific gardener. Ron loved the birds, and with his gentle manner, was able to coax birds to sit in the palm of his hand. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, his grandmother having been born in Co. Donegal, and during their many trips to Ireland, he and Irene were able to find her ancestral home, and subsequently brought his own mother to visit there. In addition to Ireland, they made many trips to Rome, which he loved, and the highlight of his first trip to Rome was being able to visit the grave of his oldest brother, Warren, Jr., who is buried in the American Military Cemetery outside Florence. While living in Stamford, he was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Irene Hogan DeCamp, a daughter, Diane Martinsky, granddaughter, Cory DeCamp, dear brother, William DeCamp, sisters, Marlene Kyle and Donna Ward, and a close cousin, Neil Rennie. In addition, Ron is survived by his wife's extended family, all of whom he loved as his own. Calling hours will be held 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, November 13th at Shippan's Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home ( located in same facility as Bosak Funeral Home) 453 Shippan Avenue Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 14th at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church 1200 Shippan Ave Stamford. Burial will follow at St John Cemetery. Ron's wife, Irene, extends a special thanks to Cape Cod Hospital, Dr. Arruda, Dr. Copp and in particular to the nurses and staff of Mugar 6, for all their kind and generous care.
