Obituary of Margaret B Baylor

Marg Baylor, 92, passed peacefully on November 22, 2022. The daughter of Charles Henry Burchenal and Mary Hazen Burchenal, Marg was born in Ohio on February 19th, 1930. Raised in Glendale, Ohio, where she was the youngest of four siblings: John H Burchenal, Charles Burchenal, and Beatrice McGrath.

Marg had a fun, lively spirit. Her kindhearted, caring way made her easily likable.

She was a dedicated mother whose love of children was apparent wherever she went. After graduating from Bradford College, she spent some time teaching young children in New York City, then again returned to work with children later in her life at the New Canaan Country School. This was one of the great joys of her life and she was well loved at the school.

She spent many years between teaching jobs managing The Corner House, a small boutique clothing store located in both Darien and New Canaan. Here she made many friends and connections to the community. She also gave of her time for many years, volunteering for the Children's Aid Society.

Married in 1955 to William B Baylor, Marg made her home and raised her family in Darien, CT for more than two decades. There she created wonderful memories and beautiful holiday traditions. Many special occasions were shared with relatives enjoying her fabulous meals and warm, cheery nature.

Marg loved to read and enjoyed being a part of her New Canaan book club. She also loved to travel, often visiting her favorite places: Clearwater Beach FL, Martha’s Vineyard, Weekapaug, RI and often to New York City. She was active and athletic, enjoying tennis, paddle tennis, golfing, gardening, and always a good walk.

Marg had a deep love of family whether they be near or far. She kept in touch with all her relatives and was always so happy to see them, and to find out about their lives.

She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by many.

She is survived by her four children and five grandchildren: William Barksdale Baylor (daughter Poppi and son Will), Charles Burchenal Baylor (son Morgan), Courtenay Baylor Coleman, and Margot Baylor Milburn (daughters Emily and Allie).
