Obituary of Ellen McConologue

Ellen Patricia McConologue (neé Flanigan) passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2022; her wedding anniversary. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and talented nurse, Ellen was born on March 29th, 1940 in The Bronx to Francis and Anne (neé Murphy) Flanigan. An exceptional mind with a passion for learning, Ellen attended Preston High School before graduating from Mamaroneck High School in Mamaroneck, New York in 1958, being one of two women in her graduating class to have completed the science track and earning highest marks in her Physics and Calculus Regents Examinations. She went on to graduate from the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing and achieved great success in her work, spanning decades and moving across multiple disciplines and positions in the field of medicine, the proudest of which was her tenure as Head Nurse. Her love for nursing and care for others was felt by all who she served and worked along side with over her forty-five year career. Ellen’s greatest joy was her large and loving family. An exceptional mother and amazing grandmother, she dedicated her life to her family. Along with the love of her life, Ellen created the most beautiful world for herself and her family, full of travel, dancing, home-cooked food, an ever-open door, and bursting with love. She is predeceased by her adoring husband Jim and beloved son Jay, and survived by her remaining children Mimi Amodio, Mary Beth Farrell, Frank Usowski, Michael Usowski, Kevin Usowski, and Zoë Usowski, children-in-law, grandchildren, and many others whose lives she touched. To know her was to love her.
