Obituary of Susan Sloman Caplan

Susan Sloman Caplan, beloved grandmother, mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend, passed away peacefully—surrounded by her loving family–on Friday, July 22, 2022, at the age of 85.

Born and raised in Stamford, Susan was the daughter of Dr. David W. and Lillian S. Sloman of Old North Stamford Road. She attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from Greenwich School of Nursing on June 4, 1959. Susan dedicated five decades to nursing, compassionately caring for those in the community she grew up in.

On April 23, 1961, Susan married the love of her life, Jack H. Caplan, and together they raised a beautiful family, which included three children, Dana, David, and Caren, and their many, many pets.

Susan and Jack’s doors were always open. Everybody was welcome, and everybody came—for Wiffle ball, tasty food, and Nurse Susan’s sage advice. She will forever be remembered for her generosity, kindness, sparkling blue eyes, sense of humor in the face of trying times, and perfect Matzoh balls. In our hearts, she is still sipping coffee, tapping her toes, and whistling along to Barbra Streisand.

Susan will be missed dearly by her daughters Dana and Caren, son David, daughter-in-law Susanne, son-in-law Chris, the Sarner, Silver and Freeman families, and her greatest loves—grandchildren Maggie, Emmy, and Kate.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the devoted and kind caregivers and  friends who cared for Susan, especially Rossanna Rodriguez, Joselyn Lemus, Flor Carvajal and Caring Hospice.

There will be a graveside burial service for family and friends 1 pm at Temple Beth El Cemetery, at 350 Roxbury Road, in Stamford, on Wednesday, July 27,  2022. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the charity of your choice.

The arrangements are under the direction of Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home 104 Myrtle Ave Stamford, Ct (203)-359-9999.     To send expressions of love and sympathy to the family, please visit www.gallaghefuneralhome.com
