Obituary of Philip Kogan

Dr. Philip Howard Kogan, of Brooklyn, NY, passed away on January 22, surrounded by loving family and friends.  Philip died peacefully after living life as fully as he could during 11 challenging months while receiving care for esophageal-gastric cancer.

Philip graduated from Stamford High School and earned his B.S. and Ph.D. in Nutrition, Physiology and Molecular Biology from Cornell University.  Dr. Kogan had an impactful career in scientific research with numerous publications on insect biology and physiology.  Never one to shy away from change, he began a second career working in graduate medical education, most recently serving thousands of physicians as Senior Staff Associate Medical Education Systems Specialist at SUNY Downstate Graduate Medical Center.

Philip had a lifelong interest in health and well being and was proud of his professional training in the Feldenkrais Method which uses gentle movement and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways of living the life they want.

Philip was a world-class friend. When Philip was in a room, it became warmer. Everything, even the mundane, became fun with Philip. Philip personified affection and acceptance.

Philip was a beautiful, kind, loving, brilliant, and creative man.  He is survived by his husband, Charles D. Jackson; his mother, Emilyn Kogan; brothers, Jerome, Jay, and Scott; sisters through marriage, Sharon, Lynn, Elijah, and Daphne; and nieces and nephews: Yonatan, Jennie, Shira, Joshua, Danielle, Jeremy, Russel, Jessica, Maetal, and Beck.  Philip was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Kogan.
