We were so saddened to hear the news of Helen’s passing. We’ve had the pleasure of knowing Helen since we joined Woodway in the 70’s. I had the honor of serving with her on the Woodway Board and she was always thoughtful, kind and offered many well reasoned opinions during our deliberations. Additionally, Betsy and I saw first hand, her love for golf and tennis and thanks to her many contributions, our team won the Guys and Dolls golf tourney a few falls back.
All who knew her as a caring, loving person of her families and her many friends will fondly remember Helen. She will be truly missed by many.
Our sincere sympathy and condolences to the Gaffney and Rothermick families on their loss of a truly wonderful lady.

“She loved reading, travel, bridge, and golf, but was happiest with her family and friends.”
This statement from Helen’s obituary captures her spirit so well. I remember her as someone who was widely read and conversant in many subjects, but was always curious to learn more from the people around her. She was genuinely interested in other people’s lives and opinions, and somehow managed to keep track of all the comings, goings and life events not only of her children and step-children and their spouses, but also her numerous grandchildren. (And I’ve no doubt the same was true for her great-grandchildren once they came along). She spoke of all of them with pride, compassion and love.
Helen and I shared a mutual love of gardening, although she was a much more advanced practitioner than I was. One of my fondest memories is of a relaxing weekend driving trip that Frank and I took with Helen and John one fall through the New York and Connecticut countryside, for purposes of leaf-peeping and otherwise enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
My heartfelt condolences to the entire Gaffney/Rothermich clan, who have been through so much together. There is a saying attributed to the Greek statesman Pericles: “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” Helen, along with John, Frank Sr. and Shirley, has certainly left quite a legacy in that regard. May she rest in peace.

I have such fond memories of visiting New York City with Grandma Helen and Grandpa John as a child. I remember seeing the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and thought how lucky I was to be there. Grandma Helen will be missed greatly. God rest her soul. We're praying for the rest of the family, as well.
