Obituary of Carl S Sodergran

Carl Stig Sodergran, 96, of Stamford, passed away on November 27, 2017 at Stamford Hospital.  Born in Finland on September 28, 1921, Carl came to the United States at the age of 19, and began working in a wood shop in Branford, CT.  He later joined the Merchant Marines and served during WWII.  Following the war, he worked as a carpenter.  From 1958 until he retired, Carl ran various construction companies with his business partners, and built many homes all over Stamford and the surrounding area. He spent most of his summers in Finland enjoying his home at Vargholmen and visiting friends and family.

Carl was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Mildred, and also by his sister, Sigrid.  He is survived by his daughters, Jean (Rolf) Granskog, Anita (Barry) Mickels, his grandchildren Cindy, Nancy, Brian & Steven as well as seven great-grandchildren.   Also surviving is his older sister, Sylvia and nieces & nephews.

The family wishes to extend a special gratitude to the staff at Stamford Hospital & Bennett Cancer Center who provided much care over the past months, and also to the in-home caregivers who enabled him to fulfill his wish of remaining at home. 

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 884 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien, CT.
