Are All Caskets The Same Size

Several clients at Sholom Chapel believe that all caskets are the same size. That is not correct. A standard-sized one will generally suffice if you need a casket for a deceased family member. If the deceased person were much bigger, you would need a larger casket. If you have chosen cremation, there would be no burial, and there is no need for an elaborate casket, and you can opt for a simple one.

Caskets of Various Sizes

Caskets are available in a wide range of sizes, including:

1. Standard Casket Dimensions

Typically, these caskets are 84 inches in length, 28 inches wide, and 23 inches in height. In most circumstances, metal and wood caskets are similar in size. Caskets of conventional sizes can be buried in common burial grounds " (usually 30" in width). The internal dimensions of the casket will vary significantly. Metal caskets are typically 78/79" long and 23/24" wide on the inside.

Most individuals can fit inside standard-sized caskets, commonly holding someone weighing approximately 350 pounds and measuring 6'5". However, it is advised that you check with the funeral director since they are knowledgeable and therefore can decide on the best casket for your requirements.

2. Larger Casket Dimensions

If you want a casket for a much bigger individual or greater room within the casket, a larger casket is an alternative. While the length is similar to standard-size ones, the inside room is significantly larger. The outward width of small oversized caskets may be as little as 27 inches with a narrower inside width. Additionally, you can choose from larger caskets that measure 28", 29", 33", 40", and 44" "'. All sizes would be an inch smaller inside than the outside.
