What if I Want an Unconventional Funeral Service?

Death is something that will come to every one of us, and dealing with it is an extremely personal matter. Traditionally, your family members decide on how the service will be conducted. The entire event is planned in the manner how they want it. However, all of this is changing and many people are very firm on how they want their funeral service or celebration of life to be held once they die.

A Few Unconventional Ideas

Many people are moving away from conventional ideas & are veering towards more unconventional forms of conducting a service such as:

  • Cremation rather than burial
  • Green burial services
  • A celebration of life
  • Donations to charities that the decedent supported
  • Scattering ashes at sea or other meaningful locations after the cremation
  • Memorial services in calm and serene surroundings, and not at a funeral home
  • Home gatherings
  • Themed celebrations/gatherings
  • Other

The Concept Of Pre-Planning Your Funeral

This used to be something that members of the family decided and organized after the person passed away. Consider pre-planning and pre-paying for your own funeral service if you you prefer an unconventional service.

You need to have a detailed discussion with the funeral director at the funeral home of your choice. You can plan your funeral the way to want it. This is the best way to ensure that you have an unconventional funeral service.

Your family will have no say in this matter and the decision is yours alone. This is a good thing as is does not leave any room for disagreements, arguments or unpleasantness among the members of your family. This is why many people are choosing to have an unconventional funeral service.

As you can see, there are a number of ways in which you can conduct a non-traditional funeral service. If you want to know more about funerals or want to plan one, don’t hesitate to contact us at Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home for more information
